Today was our first meeting for the Honours Social Sciences Program.
In the past few weeks, since the beginning of this semester, I have been looking into the Honours Social Sciences program. I gathered that the program was helpful for students who wanted to develop their knowledge of different social sciences in practice and real-life events, like in student forums or in Model UN seminars. The admission process consisted of writing a letter of motivation, in which I discussed my interest in Civil Law, Journalism and History as well as the projects I had already realized in those fields, like my book on Greek mythology, my participation in the Bourstad contest and my acceptance in the Harvard Politics Summer Academy.
Professor Mitrasca explained the program requirements in detail today. First of all, we must maintain an average of at least 85% in all Social Sciences courses (this semester, those are Intro to Economics, Research Methods and History of Western Civilization). For now, my grades in those classes are 90%, 90% and 98% accordingly, so hopefully keep those grades up. We also need to attend and participate in at least one formal social sciences conference/activity, which will be difficult during Covid-19 but hopefully, everything is back to normal next year. The program also demands to get involved in tutoring or volunteer work, and to write an original presentable research paper of quality all by the end of our last semester. Finally, we need to keep up a portfolio of all our social sciences extracurriculars, which is why I started this website.
My goals (for now) for the end of this semester are to find a social sciences activity that I can do this year through the pandemic, try to join the Model UN at our school (contact Elsa) and talk to Professor Scarone about doing Bourstad again this year.
Now I am going back to studying for my midterms in Research Methods and Economics!
